mishima and cobalt

June 30, 2014

Hello Summer!

Time has flown, but we've had a beautiful season of travel, teaching, and home buying excitement (oh my!). This evening I wanted to share a small group of finished pots from our last firing in early May. The small hexagon mishima dishes have been a delight. I've taken to drawing with an extra thin needle and love the delicate fragility of the line it creates. I've also grown more comfortable and enthralled with cobalt as a drawing medium. Translucent to opaque, I love the variety and value of these marks.

Wishing you a lovely week,

lately | here and there

March 26, 2014

Planting onions during a late winter and beautiful claytonia from the spring garden at our CSA - Macomb, IL
Studio still life and a new series of porcelain plates with mishima drawings - Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL
I recently spent a week with my lovely cousins in Chicago. I enjoyed walking through beautiful neighborhoods, copious amounts of amazing mocha lattes, and baking a delicious lemon blueberry yogurt cake (recipe from the ever amazing Deb Perelman of Smitten Kitchen) - Chicago, IL
We're so excited about the arrival of our good friend and wonderful ceramic artist, Norleen Nosri who has a two day workshop and lecture on campus this week. Her work is beautiful and it's such a joy to a again celebrate clay with her- Macomb, IL

Wishing you a lovely rest of your week,

A collection of stills from this snowy landscape that continues to surround us.  - Macomb, IL

Lately, I've been in love with the contrast of dried plants and seeds against the snow. The lines they hold are graceful and the plentifulness of the remaining seeds is driving my making in the studio.

I hope inspiration is finding you in unexpected places as well!

It was a wonderful week.

I enjoyed a beautiful 31st birthday and days in the studio working a collection of hand-built slab mugs. Bliss.

Sunday brings a day of traveling as I return to the Mary Anderson Center for the Arts to take down my recent show, Path. Thanks so much to everyone who took time to visit the work and those who came out to celebrate at the reception. Your love and support is contagious.

Wishing you a wonderful week,

natalie
